Practical information

School hours

The school is open from 8 a.m. on weekdays. Classes begin usually start at 8:30am. Some students start at 8:10am once a week if they have sports or swimming first thing in the morning. 

Office

Office hours are as follows:

• Monday–Thursday: 8 a.m.–3.p.m.
• Friday: 8 a.m.–2 p.m. 

Snacks

Students bring healthy snacks to eat in the classroom in the morning. All children are offered free lunch. 

Physical education and swimming

Physical education classes for students in grades 1-4 are held in the Grandaskóli gym, while physical education for students in grades 4-7 takes place at the KR facility. Fourth grade physical education takes place at both locations. Swimming instruction for all grades takes place at Vesturbæjarlaug.

Phone use

Mobile phone use is prohibited at Grandaskóli, but students may bring phones if kept in their bags during school hours.

Absence notifications

Absences must be reported through Mentor.is for each day a child is sick and unable to attend school.

All leave requests, whether short- or long-term, must be submitted through Mentor.is.
