The Big Read-Aloud Contest, preliminary competition

Baldvin Tómas Sólmundarson and Emelía Ósk Arnórsdóttir

The district finals of The Big Read-Aloud Contest for primary schools in our district were held Thursday, April 10, at Háteigskirkja church. Participating schools included Landakotsskóli, BSK Reykjavík, Grandaskóli, Vesturbæjarskóli, Melaskóli, Suðurhlíðarskóli, Hlíðaskóli and Austurbæjarskóli.

The results

Baldvin Tómas Sólmundarson and Emelía Ósk Arnórsdóttir represented Grandaskóli. Each contestant performed three readings. First, they read a chapter from Hjalti Halldórsson's novel "Draumurinn" (The Dream). Next, contestants read poems about Icelandic nature by various authors from the poetry collection "allt fram streymir" (everything flows forward). Finally, contestants read poems of their own choosing.

The performances were impressive, and it was evident our students had put considerable effort into their preparation. Vigdís Jóhannsdóttir, a teacher at the school, provided guidance and training for our students in preparation for the big event.

In the final results, Baldvin secured first place and Emelía took third place in the competition. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to them on their outstanding achievement.
