Celebrating Þorri
Þorri is the fourth winter month and starts on a Friday between Jan. 19 and 25.
Here at Grandaskóli, we uphold the Þorri tradition by serving its classic dishes in our cafeteria. Yesterday we hosted a feast featuring traditional Þorri food for students and staff. We're always amazed by how many people are eager to try pickled foods and fermented shark, even though these dishes probably aren't regular fare at their dinner tables. Many students, however, headed straight for the rice pudding and wanted nothing to do with sheep's head. Whatever the children ate, it was a wonderful day filled with engaging conversations about Iceland's past.
